Claude in Chrome, Gemini and ChatGPT agents open a new tab group every session, and every Chrome restart leaves the old one behind with no owner. AgentBroom is a free Chrome tab groups extension that merges those orphaned groups into one. It never closes a tab, and Undo is one click away.
Free · No account · No AI · Never closes your tabs
Press Sweep and watch the strip. Untick a group to leave it alone, then try Undo. Your loose tabs (no colour) never move.
The mess agents leave behind
Every browser agent session opens its own tab group and walks away. After a week of real work, your tab bar is a row of identical "Claude" chips and you can't find anything.
One group per session, never cleaned up. A few days later you're scrolling sideways past five "Claude" groups to find your own tabs.
Tab cleaners close groups they think are finished. When a tab holds an agent's half-done research, that's work you lose.
Right-click, move to group, repeat for every tab. It works, it's easy to forget, and the groups come back tomorrow.
Browser agents tie each session to its own Chrome tab group. Start a new session and you get a new group. Restart Chrome and the link between the session and its old group breaks, so the agent starts another one and the old group stays behind with nobody using it.
The same thing happens with Gemini in Chrome and ChatGPT's agent. None of them clean up the groups they leave, and Chrome has no button to merge tab groups. So the orphans pile up until you drag every tab out by hand.
AgentBroom does that merge for you: every orphaned agent group in the window goes into the group your agent is using right now, with every tab still open.
From public bug reports on the Claude Code issue tracker. These people are describing the problem, not reviewing AgentBroom.
"Multiple Claude tab groups are piling up, and no way to manage them."
"Every new session spawns a brand-new Chrome tab group instead of reusing the tab/window already open."
"The same long-running session gets a new group after every browser restart."
"Every session's tab group looks identical, so there is no way to map a tab group back to the session that owns it."
Why power users want it
One sweep, one group, nothing lost. AgentBroom does the boring part and keeps its hands off your tabs.
Orphaned Claude, Gemini and ChatGPT groups land in the group your agent is using right now.
Tabs are moved, never discarded. Every page stays exactly as the agent left it, and your own loose tabs stay put.
Changed your mind? Undo puts every tab back in the group it came from, even after you've closed the panel.
No sign-up and no subscription. It runs in your browser and never reads the pages you visit.
What actually happens to your tabs with each option.

How it works
Click the broom. AgentBroom lists every agent tab group in the window, how many tabs each holds, and when you last looked at one of them.
The group your agent is working in is marked as current and is where everything goes, so a live session keeps its tabs.
The tabs move into one group. Changed your mind? Undo puts every tab back in the group it came from.
Built for people like you
Docs lookups, PR reviews and bug repros spawn a tab group per session. Keep them in one place and find your real tabs again.
Agents open dozens of sources across several groups. Merge them into one group you can read through, then collapse it.
You never close anything without a reason. AgentBroom respects that and just makes the pile navigable. It's a Chrome tab manager that only moves things.
AgentBroom recognises Claude, Gemini and ChatGPT groups out of the box, and you can add any other group name your tools use.
Questions
Each agent session is tied to its own tab group. A new session, or a Chrome restart that breaks the link, gets a fresh group, and the old one stays behind with nobody using it. AgentBroom merges those orphaned groups back into one.
A sweep never closes a tab. It only moves tabs between groups. The one thing that can close tabs is an optional "Close duplicates" button, which only removes extra copies of the same page, never the one your agent is using, and can be undone.
No. The group your agent is using is marked as current and is the default destination, so the live session keeps its group. If you choose to sweep that group somewhere else, AgentBroom warns you first.
Before each sweep, AgentBroom remembers which group every tab was in. One click on Undo puts them back, even if you closed the panel in between.
Yes. It recognises groups named Claude, Gemini and ChatGPT out of the box, and you can add any other group name your tools use in the settings.
AgentBroom only uses tab and group information to do its job. It doesn't read page content, there's no account, and it uses no AI.
Yes, it's free. A small sponsor card in the side panel pays for it. AgentBroom launches in the Chrome Web Store in November 2026, and the waitlist gets the install link first.
